Awesome Classroom Garden

In Room 15 some people are helping to re-do their    classroom garden. They are putting a worm farm in it with flowers and vegetables.
It also has a dusty concrete pathway at the back and they also would like to put stepping stones in the middle. They have to get about four dead stumps out - it’s really hard. They have built a ditch around the outside. Tthere are 11 people helping.
They are also making a worm house and they have found a dirty piece of concrete that they're going to put over half of it (so the worms have shade and shelter.)

When they're finished it will be....
Awesome!!!

Goodbye godwits

In March the whole class went to the tidal flats. We found some fossils and some really big crabs. They were really interesting. I lifted some very big rocks and I found a tyre full of crabs. After we had lunch we went back out and lifted up rocks and put them in the right place to say Goodbye godwits.
By Daniel

I enjoyed the tidal flats. I liked the crabs the most. We made crab nurseries but then all the crabs started fighting so it turned into a big fighting stadium. In the crab nursery we named some particular crabs. Some of the names were Spikey, Army Man and Goldie. Then we had lunch. At lunch we found one ambushed crab. Once we had let the crabs go we joined the other kids to make the sign. When the sign was finished Ms Cooke took some photos.                    by Mateo

Trip to the Nelson Museum

On Wednesday 25 March, Room 15 went to the Nelson museum. We went there to learn about plants. My favourite bit was the bit where you had to be the wind. There was a wooden board and on the wooden board there was a picture of flowers with little bits of velcro on them. You had to see if you could pollinate it by throwing little bits of pollen. We learnt about the food chain too but really there were quite a few activities. For the first one we went out on the deck and did some things with native plants and the second one was learning about plants Maori used for medicine. The next one was my favourite one, the one that I already told you about, and the very last one was plant sketching. The museum trip was fantastical.  By Tamsyn

Room 15 went to the museum to see an exhibition and learn about plants. We learnt that you can use poisonous plants to make medicine. We learnt about seed dispersal as well. Seeds can travel away from the mother plant in four ways; wind, water, animals and self-dispersal. We also learned that flowers have lots and lots of pollen. We sketched plants and learnt about the food chain as well. by Emanuel

The school triathlon

Our school triathlon gives us a chance to practise two of our keys for learning,
Have A Go and Perseverance. Although some of us got butterflies in our tummies before our race we never gave up.

"Year 4 girls come to the starting line," yelled Mr Strawbridge. I, Charlotte D was near the front of the Year 4 girls! Once I have run 3 laps I have to bike 2 laps! Now I'm onto my last lap it feels like I have passed 14 girls already! Now I take off my shows, dump my bike and run to the pool. Splash! I'm in, swimming 3 laps. One more to go. Finished! Now I run to the finish line. Ninth- I came ninth out of 25. WOW- I have never done that in my life! By Charlotte D

I waited at the starting line. I really didn't want to do it. Then Mr Burt said"Go!" I ran as fast as I could. Then I jumped onto my bike. We had to do two laps of the field. My legs were really aching by now but we still had to do three lengths of the pool, it was really hard. Then I finally crossed the finish line. I came 14th. By Flo

I was already exhausted when I started to bike. Oh, no, my shoelaces got caught on the pedal!
Seven bikes passed me But I caught up. Shoes off, helmet off, run to the pool. Splash! OOF! Face first. Swim, hop out, run, muscles pumping. I came eleventh, my friend Oscar came tenth and Kouta came twelfth. By Jordan
